Well the holidays are definitely upon us. Thanksgiving came and went in a flurry and before we know it, the winter holidays and New Year’s will be over. Because mature men in Hollywood tend to organize, manage, and direct most of the Hollywood product we see; sometimes it’s a good idea to take pride in their presence and availability. Many times wise, frequently eccentric, yet almost always experienced you may find yourself mentored by these seniors and you will likely find yourself better for it. After all they have seen more, made the greatest number of decisions, and fortunately if we’re lucky they supply us with tales we might either live by or at least help us refine our own contradictory opinions. Here’s to older men, we hope we’re as good at listening, as they are generous when they share by speaking to us.

On Saturday the hotly anticipated preview and panel interview of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey took place at Comic Con. Attending the conference was director Peter Jackson, actors Sir Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Elijah Wood and Andy Serkis, plus other crew members. Despite being filmed at 48 frames per second in 3D, director Peter Jackson decided to show the four preview clips at the normal 24 frames per second in 2D due to the controversy at Cinema Con earlier this year. 24 FPS has been used since the 1920’s, naturally something was bound to replace it but unfortunately for Jackson, The Hobbit will be the first film to use this new technology and therefore will take a lot of flak until audiences adapt [1].
