Best Cult Comedy Film Quotes

Last article in our series on Cult Classic Films.

In researching Cult Comedy Film Classics, I found the list to be endless.  This genre is actually quite vast considering comedies can be classified as science fiction (Spaceballs), adventure (Princess Bride), or romance (Sixteen Candles).  Generally cult classics are low grossing films but there are quite a few comedies that did very well at the box office.  Office Space estimated production cost  was $10 million.  Unfortunately they barely broke even with $10 million and change.[1]  However, Home Alone’s estimated budget was $15 million and it grossed approximately $530 worldwide![2]

Absurdity at its Finest

Most plays can be defined as tragedies or comedies but some plays due to the use of illogical situations, unconventional dialogue and minimal plots are used to express the absurdity of human life, which have been coined as being absurd. Martin Esslin gave the term the Theater of the Absurd too many plays that were written between the 1940’s and the 1960’s in France.  The writers of these plays are Samuel Beckett, Arthur Adamov, Eugene Ioneseco, Jean Genet, and Harold Pinter to name a few.  The term itself came from Albert Camus, a French philosopher who wrote about it in his essay The Myth of Sisyphus

Movie Buzz- 6-03

The Hangover Part II really got movie goers out in theaters last weekend. Will it have the same impact this weekend given it’s bad reviews? The impressive numbers at the box office appears to suggest consumers did not care what film critics had to say.  Kung Fu Panda 2 also opened last weekend and not only impressed film critics but consumers as well. We will examine what critics and consumers had to say plus vote if it’s worth the money.
