In 1950, director and screenwriter, Billy Wilder, brought an iconic film noir classic to the big screen.  The film: Sunset Blvd.  The synopsis is of a faded Hollywood silent film starlet, Norma Desmond (Gloria Swanson) who is trying to make a comeback.  A hack of a screenwriter is hired to write the screenplay that will bring Norma back to her fans.  Unfortunately her great belief in her own ego is her downfall and has cast her as a recluse.  Romance and death ensue.   Sunset Blvd won 3 Oscars: Best Screenplay, Best Art Direction/Set Decoration, and Best Music.[1] Continue reading

Come November, a new film about the HIV/Aids epidemic will hit US theaters.  Dallas Buyers Club stars Matthew McConaughey, Jared Leto, and Jennifer Garner.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

This week at our sister site Page to Silver Screen, we are voting on our October book.  Of the four listed, we thought we would spot light The Legend of Sleepy Hollow for it’s enduring thrill and horror of nearly 200 years.  Published in 1820 by Washington Irving, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, is a classic tale, immortalized by Walt Disney Productions in it’s film The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (1949 and 1958). Carrie Returns!

October 18, 2013, another version of Stephen King’s classic Carrie will be making it’s film debut.  This version stars Julianne Moore and Chloe Moretz.  Having recently read the book and seen the 1976 film (PTSS book/movie review), I am somewhat interested in seeing how this version compares to the book and original film.   Continue reading
