All Good Things Must Come To An End: Some Need More Help Than Others

25 Mar

When Harry Potter ended, many consumers were saddened by the end of the franchise.  However, J. K. Rowling gave them Pottermore to help them relive the series. Click here to view.

When Twilight ended, their help came in the form of a helpline to help ease the transition back to reality.

Why can’t fans just watch the DVD’s?  From the sounds of this article perhaps “the powers that be” (TPTB) know that the distressed fans seem to be psychologically distressed.  In that case, the suicide hotline is (1.800.273.8255).  Its a movie.  All movies end.  So do relationships.  If you have involved yourself so much within the franchise in the last five years that you cannot tell the difference between reality and fantasy, then perhaps you should have never gotten involved in it at all.

If only good things did not have to end….

      Jeyna,

Everything has an ending and from those endings come new beginnings. It is the evolution of life.

Oops forgot to say hello to Jeyna! Hello Jeyna! Sorry for my lapse of manners! 🙂

    Paris-

Obviously, HP was a class act from beginning to end. HP nourished creativity and imagination among fans, whereas Twilight cultivated obsession, stalking and devision. Hmm! The quality comparison just keeps on mounting up.

  3. Comic Relief March 25, 2013 at 10:29 AM #

Even after the franchise is over, J.K. Rowling still seems to have trouble turning the class off.

    • Open Book March 25, 2013 at 10:48 AM #

      Sooo true!

CR- Have u known fanboys to need this type of support getting over a franchise ending? For example what happened after Dark Knight or Spiderman ended?

      • Comic Relief March 25, 2013 at 10:56 AM #

I certainly don’t think so. I can only assume “suicide” is being discussed because young women are threatening to commit it.

When it comes time to roll out the psychological aid, OB do you think concerned people should look for answers in the business department?

        • Open Book March 25, 2013 at 11:08 AM #

Hmm! Given the Occupy Movement that would be a NO!

        • Open Book March 25, 2013 at 2:16 PM #

CR-Given the lead character in Twilight wanted to kill herself this may be a reason suicide is attractive to some fans. I don’t know its just a guess.

  4. Comic Relief March 25, 2013 at 10:47 AM #

Did anyone ever discuss suicide with that franchise?

    • Open Book March 25, 2013 at 10:52 AM #

Who could have predicted fangirls would be this nonsensical? Has this ever happened before?

      • Comic Relief March 25, 2013 at 11:01 AM #

I certainly don’t know. We should ask Paris whether “Bitten By Twilight: Youth Culture, Media and the Vampire Franchise” talks about it.” Unfortunately, I assume the book was published way before the conclusion of the series.

    • parisienne March 26, 2013 at 5:45 PM #

      CR,

I have seen posts from people that say how they do not know how they will go on. Mainly its for the Robsten obsession.

  5. Comic Relief March 25, 2013 at 10:49 AM #

(One dead fan and counting), far more delirious Twihards have trouble weaning themselves off the franchise so Summit sends them a highlight reel.

This sounds typical of Summit rationality and sounds like the Twihards are going to have to come out of pocket for their own therapy.

When AA wants you to stop drinking they put you on an alcohol abstinence program. They don’t send you on an express trip to your favorite brewery or winery.

The similar H.Potter resolution for separation anxiety sounds poorly chosen.

    • Open Book March 25, 2013 at 11:03 AM #

Yes, they do sound sincere and concerned don’t they? Oh! Yeah, I’m sorry u lost yourself in our PR machine to sell this film. However, on your way out take a complimentary mint and leave your money at the door. Please when are these Twifans going to wake up?

      • parisienne March 26, 2013 at 5:56 PM #

LOL! They should also hand out backwards jackets.

        • Open Book March 26, 2013 at 7:33 PM #

Are these jackets white by any chance?

          • parisienne March 26, 2013 at 7:49 PM #

yes and they have fashionable leather straps as well.

            • ozzie20 March 26, 2013 at 8:15 PM #

You guys are cracking me up here! LOL! I think Twilight’s legacy should be a reminder of how NOT to do things!

Damn, I’m missing tomorrow’s daily dose of laughter! I’ll be on checking what I missed as soon as I get home on Friday… Finger’s crossed, we don’t get snowed in, lol!

    Paris-

IMO Robert Pattinson is the only one who has moved on from this franchise. His co-star is really milking the Twifans for all their worth and they refuse to wake up. U would think after the numerous Razzi nominations and wins, plus the Rupert thing that ruined the illusion of Bella as a faithful wife. The fans would say no more milk for u.

    • Open Book March 25, 2013 at 12:02 PM #

When u made this statement “some need more help than others” Its obvious Kristen is using Robsten to get Twilight fan hits. When will she wing herself off the bottle?

      • parisienne March 26, 2013 at 5:58 PM #

She’ll do it when she’s forced to.

        • Open Book March 26, 2013 at 11:17 PM #

Well maybe Twi fans should start wearing t-shirts saying NO MORE MILK FOR U KSTEW. Do u think this might be an incentive?

          • parisienne March 27, 2013 at 11:45 PM #

No, I think they should wear shirts that say Kristen Stewart: Used, Abused, and hanging on for dear life.

    • parisienne March 26, 2013 at 5:55 PM #

      OB,

Rob isn’t the only one who has moved on. Peter and Elizabeth (Carlisle and Esme) both have work on t.v. so does Billy Burke (Charlie Swan) Nikki (Rosalie) is still making films and music. Kellan (Emmett) is filming Tarzan right now plus has another 4 films coming out this year.

Ashley Greene(Alice) has two films in post production at the moment plus she’s also a model for Donna Karan.

Taylor (Jacob) has one film in post production right now.

Jackson (Jasper) has one film in post production plus working on t.v. as well.

      Am I missing anyone?

Thanks for informing me Paris, knowing this information about the other cast members really shows what faith they have in themselves and respect for the fans. It also brings to mind this quote.

“If a man has any greatness in him, it comes to light, not in one flamboyant hour, but in the ledger of his daily work.” B. Markham

Far to often we rely on flashy stuff to mask our lack of faith and unwillingness to test ourselves to bring out that greatness. Meaning it does little to strengthen our resolve, character or grow our faith if we don’t move beyond our comfort zones. Twilight has ended and its time to respect the fans and let them move on. I mean after 5 films and supposedly being a seasoned actress etc.? There are no excuses for continuing to exploit the Twi fans to create the illusion u are in demand. Come on times up!

        • parisienne March 26, 2013 at 7:09 PM #

Someone send that memo to Kristen.

        • parisienne March 26, 2013 at 7:11 PM #

I noticed that Jackson and Peter were moving between film and t.v. while filming the saga.

          • Open Book March 26, 2013 at 7:28 PM #

Well it sounds like he didn’t squander his 15.
What is Kristen’s excuse? She’s had 25. Sounds like someone doesn’t know the value of work or how to respect opportunity’s given. Hmm!

P.S. I will let u send the memo.

            • parisienne March 26, 2013 at 7:47 PM #

I shall send it loud and clear.

      hey!

I’m proud to say I’ve never seen a whole one, lol! I just waited till the scenes I wanted to see were on youtube. Out of the whole saga I think I’ve seen about an hours worth of it! This is one time when not having alot of money has paid off, rotflmao!

              Ah! One life saved. Yes!

              • ozzie20 March 27, 2013 at 8:07 PM #

I’ll try to remember to bring life boats for whatever crazy thing happens next. I’d rather be drifting on the ocean aimlessly rather than on a sinking ship where both sides are still fighting instead of bailing out, lol! 🙂

  8. littlebells March 26, 2013 at 7:24 PM #

It’s nice to see a lot of the twilight crew continuing their career. TBH is set to be made starting end of 2013. I wonder if it will follow all the books and be made into separate films if it will be more like HP or Twilight mania…

    • parisienne March 26, 2013 at 7:58 PM #

OMG alex pettyfer better not play Shura! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Just no! OMG hold be back i just had a fanatical fan moment. So this is what that feels like.

Thanks Ozzie! When I picture Shura, I picture someone like Mark Consuelos.

Wow! just wow! Now this is sounding like PR. Let’s see how in demand u are by setting up a suicide hotline for your fans. I guess to be an actor today u need to have fans who are mentally and emotionally unstable? Give me a break!

        • ozzie20 March 26, 2013 at 8:31 PM #

I thought Gosling had sane fans!

          • ozzie20 March 26, 2013 at 8:39 PM #

Actually thinking about it, he too has an insane faction of fans. The ones who want him and Rachel to live out The Notebook forever!

I totally forgot what I was going to say!

  10. ozzie20 March 26, 2013 at 7:48 PM #

    HI Everyone!

I love the article, Paris! 🙂 I, too agree. All things come to an end and make way for bigger and better things! People have become too involved. It’s not their lives so they shouldn’t become so worked up over it. My Grandpa has a saying. If there’s a problem, don’t panic or worry. If there’s a way of fixing it, fix it. If there’s nothing that can be done, sit back and enjoy the ride as much as possible, because it’s out of your power! People shouldn’t be sad or angry over something like this. They have no control. So they might as well sit back and find the funny side to it!

I can only recall one other time there has been a hotline for fans to call and that was when a boyband split up. I think there were one or two suicides. I’m going to have to google it as it’s over 15 years ago when it happened.

    • parisienne March 26, 2013 at 7:51 PM #

      Hi Ozzie,

Honestly, I think these hotlines are just a way to milk people out of their money.

      • ozzie20 March 26, 2013 at 8:08 PM #

        Probably!

It’s probably run by trained professional but I keep thinking of the times on The Simpsons that they’ve used hotlines. I have images of quotes from the movies and book being read very slowly, lol!

I could find anything on my brief search about suicides over the boyband. Some threatened to do it but I haven’t found any that actually went ahead, which is very good as 10 years later they reunited and are still around!

    • littlebells March 26, 2013 at 8:15 PM #

      What boyband?

      • ozzie20 March 26, 2013 at 8:36 PM #

Take That. I can’t remember if they made it in the States or not. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Take_That

        • parisienne March 27, 2013 at 11:30 AM #

They did. Their hit Back For Good was pretty big over here. Robbie Williams himself is also doing well with record sales.

          • ozzie20 March 27, 2013 at 8:19 PM #

He is? Aw, that’s good news! God bless him, he’s through alot (although I think the majority are his own demons and not someone else’s) so hearing he’s doing well is nice.

    Everyone,

I’m leaving for the evening but will be back later.
