Movie Buzz 7/20

20 Jul

Ice Age: Continental Drift- opened this week at #1, bringing in $63M.  Amazing Spider-Man dropped to#2 ($34M) and Ted is still holding it’s own in the #3 spot earning ($22M) With only one wide release film opening last week. We will review what’s opening this weekend and if it’s worth the money!

Note: We only review films in wide release.

Ice Age: Continental Drift—-PG  What’s the buzz?  Critics find it a bit fishy audiences like the film.  Sean OConnell of The Washington Post says, “the fourth “Ice Age” freshens up the 10-year-old franchise by shunning easy pop-culture jokes and embracing its weird side. Critics are quick to praise the venerable Pixar studio for pioneering new territory with the feminist spirit of “Brave.” But their creative rivals at DreamWorks and 20th Century Fox should be similarly championed for thinking outside the box with their established fran chises, particularly when such abstract thought works as well as it does here.”[1] The films stars Dennis Leary and John Leguizomo.

So is it worth the money? (Maybe)

  • Box office rank: 1
  • Critics say: Metacritic- 48 (Mixed Bag)
  • Rotten Tomatoes: 39% (Pretty smelly)
  • Consumers say: Metacritic-5.9 (Positive)
  • Rotten Tomatoes: 63%  (Not so smelly!)

What’s opening in theaters this weekend?

The Dark Knight Rises: (87% rottentomatoes)
