Movie Buzz: 1/13

13 Jan

Happy New Year Movie Buzz fans!  We hope 2012 brings some great films to the cinema for you to enjoy.  The Devil Inside takes first place at the box office ($33.7M) followed by Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows.  This weekend 3 major motion pictures will be released.  Let’s see how they did and if they are worth the money!

Note: We only review films in wide release.

We Bought a Zoo—PG What’s the Buzz? A film about a single father who wants to start fresh and ends up moving his family to a zoo. USA Today felt that the movie was a mesh of different storylines and not memorable.[1] Most consumers thought it was worth seeing and felt the cast and story was great!

So is it worth the money? Yes!

  • Box office rank: #7
  • Film Critics Say: Metacritic- 58
  • rottentomatoes: 63% (Not ripe!)
  • Consumers Say: Metacritic- 6.7
  • rottentomatoes: 83%

War Horse—PG-13 – What’s the Buzz? Based on the remarkable friendship of a boy and his horse during the First World War, s film critics and consumers both seemed to thoroughly enjoy this film.  Roger Ebert thought Spielberg did a beautiful job with stirring strong emotions and creating beautiful footage with true artistry.[2] Consumers thought the story was heroic and visuals stunning.

So is it worth the money? Yes!

  • Box office rank: #6
  • Film Critics Say: Metacritic- 72
  • rottentomatoes: 7% (rotten)
  • Consumers Say: Metacritic- 6.1
  • rottentomatoes: 43%

The Darkest Hour—PG-13 – What’s the Buzz? This film is about 5 young friends stranded in Moscow trying to survive after an alien attack.  (Wow, that already sounds really bad.) Entertainment Weekly says the characters are indistinct and lazily created.  Also instead of rooting for the humans, we “should root for the credits.”[3]

So is it worth the money? No, no!  And again, NO!

  • Box office rank: #10
  • Film Critics Say: Metacritic- 16
  • rottentomatoes: 13% (rotten)

I haven’t seen it but I’m sorry that “Iron Lady” is considered so poor. I’m sure Merryl probably put in a good performance.fff
