The Hangover Part II really got movie goers out in theaters last weekend. Will it have the same impact this weekend given it’s bad reviews? The impressive numbers at the box office appears to suggest consumers did not care what film critics had to say. Kung Fu Panda 2 also opened last weekend and not only impressed film critics but consumers as well. We will examine what critics and consumers had to say plus vote if it’s worth the money.
Note: We only review films in wide release.
The Hangover Part II-R: What’s the Buzz? Top film critic reviews were negative and conclusive. Many of them thought it failed to surprise the audience in favor of re-hashing old material from the original. Some of the frequent terms used (to describe the film) were: repetitive, lazy, desperate and unnecessary sequel.[1] So what did consumers have to say? This film was one of our New Movie Hot Seat picks last week. Reviews were mixed among those who saw the film. The reactions ranged from one extreme to the other. Some enjoyed the left over jokes from the first film while others wished for something new. So is it worth the money? No (based on the low score among film critics and mixed reviews by consumers).
- Box office rank: #1
- Film Critics Say: Metacritic- 44 Mixed, rottentomatoes: 35% (rotten)

Kung Fu Panda 2-PG-13: What’s the Buzz? This film is getting great reviews from film critics and consumers.[2] Film critics say it has great action sequences, clever and among the best films Dreamworks has ever done. - Consumers Say: Metacritic- 7.9 Positive, rottentomatoes: 86%
So there you have it what are going to see this weeknd?
Ran across your website and find it very interesting. With that being said I thought I would make a comment. I went to Hangover 2 (for pure entertainment purposes only and a free ticket) and found that I did not seem to laugh as much as I did with the first one. The whole audience seemed to be the same way. My sense of humor is usually dry and very sophmoric at times, but the movie just seemed predictable and over done in places. I realize that these are not Oscar winning performances, script writing etc, but maybe my expectations were to high? Anyone else see it?
Hi Francesca!!!! 🙂
No I did not see it but I heard from many people it was basically like the first one so it was not nearly as funny and predictable. Everything you just said. What a bummer too because it’s a great cast. I don’t think your expectations were too high. Sometimes I think sequels should NOT be made when the first film is a hit. They usually end up less than desirable.
