Did not get a chance to see it yesterday, but when I was leaving the theater Thursday night, we passed a major Pirate fan waiting for her midnight showing. She had on full costume and headgear. I about broke my elbow trying to keep my husband from sneering, snickering, and saying something loud and stupid. He totally gave me the ok to go see the midnight showing, “so you can talk with your book club”, but I was too tired.

it looks really good and of course I will go see it! I can’t wait to find out what ya’ll think!!!

      Hi LB!

What did u think of THOR?

      • Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 3:22 PM #

I liked it! I’ll put my review in the appropriate post in a bit. 🙂

  2. Open Book May 21, 2011 at 3:02 PM #

Welcome everyone to our discussion. Please join in if u have or haven’t seen the film yet.

First let me say this film was really long.

    • ozzie20 May 21, 2011 at 3:07 PM #

Did the new actors do well? I’m worried that the spark may have gone with the departure of Keira and Orlando.

      • Open Book May 21, 2011 at 3:09 PM #

They were o.k. Penelope Cruz was good. Although I like the first one the best.

        • ozzie20 May 21, 2011 at 3:17 PM #

Hmm, I was watching the trailer and thinking Penelope could probably hold her own opposite Johnny but I wasn’t sure about the new guy.

        • Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 3:23 PM #

I’m interested to see her. I definitely think she can hold her own.

          • ozzie20 May 21, 2011 at 3:32 PM #

Yes she’s a good actress, so it’ll be interesting to see how she plays off Johnny.

    Hello all!

    • Open Book May 21, 2011 at 3:10 PM #

      Hi Ozzie!

  4. Open Book May 21, 2011 at 3:08 PM #

I’m sorry Twilight has infected Mermaids what’s up with that? Having vampire mermaids was really unimpressive.

    • ozzie20 May 21, 2011 at 3:15 PM #

There were vampire mermaids? Why? I can see me watching this and having spasms trying to put the two together! Mermaids are fine on their own. They don’t need vampirism!

      • Open Book May 21, 2011 at 3:18 PM #

Yep! That’s what I said when I saw it. I’m surprised Red Riding hood did not turn out to be a vampire in Catherine Hardwicke’s film.

        • ozzie20 May 21, 2011 at 3:23 PM #

          Bahahahaha!

    • Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 3:18 PM #

Yeah, I saw that in the previews! What’s up with that? Gee whiz!

      • ozzie20 May 21, 2011 at 3:27 PM #

        Hi LB!

Seriously, if you know the myths about mermaids you don’t need to add vampirism!

  5. Open Book May 21, 2011 at 3:13 PM #

The theater was 3/4 full I saw it in 3-D and in the afternoon. Audiences seem to be really engaged for the first 30 minutes then it everyone got quiet after that. There was a lot of action, it does pull u in at the start. JD is great but I think he should stop doing these films now.

    • ozzie20 May 21, 2011 at 3:18 PM #

It’s in 3d too? Didn’t know that! Did it work well in 3d?

      • Open Book May 21, 2011 at 3:24 PM #

Save your money it’s not worth seeing in 3-D. I think it was really done badly they should have focused more on developing the plot more. It was way too long and got confusing and tiresome.

        • Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 3:26 PM #

Was this basically, “Pirates is over but let’s pump out one more”?

          • Open Book May 21, 2011 at 3:37 PM #

If it makes decent BO I think they will be doing Pirates On Golden Pond. LOL!!

            • Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 3:45 PM #

              hahahahahahaha!!!!!! That’s hysterical!

    • Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 3:19 PM #

When you say it calmed down, was it because of a poor story line or you were totally enthralled. I agree about JD stopping.

Who is the new guy btw?

      • Open Book May 21, 2011 at 3:27 PM #

        Hi LB!

Everyone was either laughing, shouting or letting out weird noises from being scared. The audience were mainly adults some kids were there as well.

        • ozzie20 May 21, 2011 at 3:28 PM #

His name is Sam Calfin or something like that I think!

          • Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 3:33 PM #

Is that the guy who is going to be in SW with the Stew???

            • Open Book May 21, 2011 at 3:36 PM #

Yeah! He gave a forgettable performance. Nothing to make u wake up and take notice. Especially, next to JD? He just faded into the background.

              • Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 3:38 PM #

OH nooooo!!!! I’m going to stay on topic, I’m going to stay on topic, I’m going to stay on topic. 🙂

                • ozzie20 May 21, 2011 at 3:41 PM #

                  Well, that bodes well then!

                  Ouch…

                  • Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 3:47 PM #

                    I”ll PM you. 🙂

  6. Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 3:24 PM #

What is the plot? I actually haven’t paid too much attention.

Off topic, but I see JD is doing that Navy Seals movie based on that true story.

    • ozzie20 May 21, 2011 at 3:31 PM #

I may have to go see that then, lol!

      • Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 3:36 PM #

        Yeah, me too!

        • Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 3:37 PM #

I can’t imagine what it would be like to be hunted down and the last survivor of your group!

          • ozzie20 May 21, 2011 at 3:44 PM #

            Scared sh!tless? I would be!

            • Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 3:46 PM #

You said it! I would think you would have to go into a very primal mind set to survive. Almost non-human

              • ozzie20 May 21, 2011 at 3:53 PM #

                I agree with that.

    • Open Book May 21, 2011 at 3:33 PM #

Well the plot was much better than the second and third one. It centers around the search for the fountain of youth. I really like the first part of the film but it became predictable. The action is great I will say that.

      • Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 3:35 PM #

Ah predictability. The great movie killer. Although, for some movies it works. But usually I just think, “Next!”

We were watching a movie the other night and I kept calling everything before it happened. My husband just thought I was really smart. hahaha!!!

        • ozzie20 May 21, 2011 at 3:43 PM #

Lol! As long as it ends better than the third one I’ll be happy. I really didn’t like that ending at all!

          • Open Book May 21, 2011 at 3:55 PM #

Ozzie- If u are a fan of the series than u might appreciate it more. This one is much better minus the false endings and the mermaid vampire. LOL!!

            • ozzie20 May 21, 2011 at 4:09 PM #

I am a fan of the films though I’m still not sure if it was necessary to make more. I have to admit the Johnny Depp/Jack Sparrow fan is doing flips! I’m glad to hear it’s better. I still haven’t bought the third dvd because I don’t the ending. If I like this one, I may get the third one when the fourth comes out on DVD!

  7. Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 3:36 PM #

HI lOB and Ozzie! I didn’t get in my formal greeting yet. 🙂

    • Open Book May 21, 2011 at 3:38 PM #

      Hi LB!

So what did u think of Thor?

      • Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 3:43 PM #

I liked it a lot! However, I did have a problem with the fact that Thor’s great humility and turn about happened in a 2-3 day period when he couldn’t pull the hammer out of the stone and he realizes his powers are gone. I would like to have had him been on earth for a week or two having some experiences that made him pull his head out of his bum. The loves scenes were cheesetastic, but overall I did enjoy it. 🙂

I thought there was a good lesson in there: Don’t be prideful and act like you know everything. It will bite you in the bum and sometimes it’s too late to make restitution for bad choices and decisions.

Ok, so what was that elctronic contrapction in the briefcase at the end? What are we being set up for?

        • Open Book May 21, 2011 at 3:52 PM #

Did u see it in 2-D or 3-D?

          • Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 3:58 PM #

2D. I’m cheap. Not every film has to be in 3D to be great.

            • Open Book May 21, 2011 at 4:09 PM #

That’s o.k. I think the production design was really impressive in 2-D as well as 3-D. That’s a sign of a good CGI film it can work in 3-D as well as 2-D.

        • Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 3:52 PM #

Hey, did Portman do this film before or after BS? It seemed like a filler movie for her.

        • Open Book May 21, 2011 at 3:53 PM #

Did u think the love scene developed too quickly?

          • Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 3:55 PM #

It was like 5 minute speed dating! And what on earth did they do together that made them fall in love? Drive fast in a big old jeep? Sleep under the stars? Talk about science?

            • Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 3:57 PM #

Honestly at one point where he’s about ready to go back and he grabs her to him a few times, I about spewed my Pepsi and snickered. I actually said, “Oh my gosh!” out loud in the theater. It was pretty cheesy. haha!

              • Open Book May 21, 2011 at 4:07 PM #

See I think men don’t know how to direct love scenes today. Everything is rushed and over in 5. LOL!!

                • Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 4:10 PM #

                  Just like sex…. say what????

                  • ozzie20 May 21, 2011 at 4:19 PM #

I was resisting the urge to joke about that!

    • ozzie20 May 21, 2011 at 3:45 PM #

      *waves* Hello!

  8. Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 3:39 PM #

    OB,

    Would you recommend this film?

    • Open Book May 21, 2011 at 3:45 PM #

Yes! I think the action is good. However, I would not see it in 3-D. It’s a lot better than the last two films. Did u see the last two? If so than it’s better than that. Honestly, JD and Cruz are good to watch together. The critics are really harsh because of it’s predictability. Also, it just drags on towards the end with all the false endings. U want to scream at times it’s just annoying and overdone.

      • Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 3:49 PM #

I saw the second and third one on DVD and honestly, I don’t remember much. I’ll wait till this one comes out on DVD as well. Sorry to hear about all the false endings. I get riled up as well. I can’t remember the films, but I’ve seen enough where they could have ended 5 endings ago and it would have been OK. haha!

  9. Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 3:44 PM #

    • Open Book May 21, 2011 at 3:50 PM #

Hmm! I don’t know I was thinking it had something to do with opening up the portal again. Remember Lotki saying there was more than one way to teleport? Perhaps this was it.

      • Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 3:54 PM #

Oh! That seems possible? So would it be like an Iron Man 2 thing? What other characters are going to be in Avengers? Do you think we will see films about them as well? I like how they are incorporating Iron Man via Samuel L. Jackson with Thor.

        • Open Book May 21, 2011 at 3:58 PM #

I know it looks good. Anyway, Black Widow will be in the Avengers remember she was played by Scarlet Johansen.

          • Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 3:59 PM #

OOOOOOOOO!!! Awesome! Is the Avengers like a new Justic League?

            • Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 3:59 PM #

*Justice* why can’t I spell today???

              • Open Book May 21, 2011 at 4:04 PM #

Yes! The Avengers is Marvels. Justice League is DC comics.

                • Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 4:09 PM #

Ok, then I am super excited? Do you think Wonder Woman stands a possibility? Probably not, but I really wish they would incorporate her. She’s an original and I think there is still a very large population that remembers her and loves her. I just don’t know how a story line would work for her. How do you make a movie out of someone getting you to tell the truth?

                  • Open Book May 21, 2011 at 4:14 PM #

That’s true it’s hard to do WW but it can be done. Look at Green Lantern and Thor? Come on it’s about a guy and a hammer?

                    • Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 4:16 PM #

haha! “If I had a hammer, I’da hammer int he morning, I’da hammer in the evening, all over this laaaaaaand!”

                    • Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 4:19 PM #

My husband and I did agree that that hammer would be pretty awesome to have. haha!

                  • ozzie20 May 21, 2011 at 4:26 PM #

Torture techniques would make it interesting but that’s not Wonder Woman’s style! 🙂

Lol, I haven’t heard that song since I was 11 and we sung it regulary at school. I hated it back then!

                    • Open Book May 21, 2011 at 4:41 PM #

Torture is better then killing people, which is what she was doing in the latest series.

                    • ozzie20 May 21, 2011 at 4:44 PM #

Really? Damm WW, what got into you?!!!

THanks! I doubt it will play in my city. I couldn’t even get EMG. 😦

I know you ladies are waiting for Tree of Life to come out on DVD, but I’m gonna take one for the team and go. I like those dark kind of movies. I’m weird.

        • Open Book May 21, 2011 at 4:12 PM #

That’s o.k. I’m putting up wide and limited release films for us to choose from. So we are not restricted to only blockbusters but have indie films as well. That’s the problem with indie films they rarely open up wide until after it’s done well in limited release.

        • ozzie20 May 21, 2011 at 4:17 PM #

          Ok…….Looks very odd, lol!

  11. Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 4:04 PM #

Is Avengers going to be different from The AVengers made in 1998? With Ralph and Uma, were they just two people grouped as avengers? I am so confused?

    • Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 4:11 PM #

I already answered my question. haha!

      • Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 4:16 PM #

OK, just got on IMDB. Ok, so there is Thor, Iron Man, Blackwidow, Captain America and Hawkeye. Who is Hawkeye?

        No WW.

it looks like it will be a great movie and am super excited? Obviously Loki is going to be one if not THE villian.

        • Open Book May 21, 2011 at 4:20 PM #

U do know WW is DC comics? She is with the Justice League which is DC comics version of the Avengers, which is Marvels.

            Gotcha!

        • Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 4:24 PM #

    Well Everyone-

Thanks for joining us today to discuss P4. I would say it’s worth seeing if u are a fan of the series and like action. Do not see it in 3-D it’s not worth it. Also, towards the end is a perfect time to take your bathroom breaks. U won’t miss anything.

Do u have any more Q LB and Oz?

  14. Littlebells May 21, 2011 at 4:34 PM #

Nope! I did vote for Hangover. I want to know if its just as good or better than the first. 🙂
