A Tale of Two Commentaries

11 Feb

By Parisienne

One night out of interest, I sat down to watch the commentaries on The Twilight Saga:  Eclipse DVD. With all this talk about Rob and Kristen “are they” or “aren’t they” relationship. There were two things I found rather interesting. Let me break them down for you.

In my opinion, Rob and Kristen aren’t dating. There is NO WAY!!!  First, if they were, the conversation during the commentary would be fluent and they would have known how each other was preparing for Breaking Dawn.  Second, Rob asked Kristen? “Have you ever watched two people kiss in public?” Such an odd question for two people that supposedly can’t get enough of each other?

I didn’t learn a thing, regarding the film from these two actors.  They laughed a lot.  And otherwise acted like friends.

I did notice a few things about their personality:  Rob is a very hard worker and loves an In and Out burger.  Wonder which type of burger he prefers?  He also said the kissing scene in the meadow was too raunchy for his taste.  Also, Rob said vampires have storage tears so they can cry.  Sorry Rob!! I researched and couldn’t find anything to support your theory.

Some things I did notice about Kristen. She did try and talk about the film compared to Rob who kept going off topic.  Please Kristen!! Drop the word “like” from your vocabulary.  It makes you sound uneducated. Although, Rob said “like” as well, it was not nearly as much as Kristen.

Also, Kristen, if you don’t know how Bella would interact with another character, pull that actor aside and work something out.  It’s not hard and would make it seem like you took some initiative with your craft.  At this point, you seem to have none but that’s just my opinion.

Godfrey and Meyer:  Ill admit I did not watch the entire commentary because it was unprofessional and in poor taste for them to speak badly of Rob and to have a glorified Kristen fest instead.  We all know she can’t act but that’s the fault of everyone around her not Rob’s.  Why in God’s name would they want to replace Rob? He is the sole reason the franchise is what it is, Rob, with Andy Samberg?  In my opinion it was poor judgment to have said that on the commentary. What do you think?

I haven’t watched the commentary, but for heaven’s sakes, she didn’t even read the books before signing on and I doubt she’s bothered to since. It doesn’t surprise me that hasn’t read the source material wouldn’t know how to interact with another character. Grrr. I did notice that in past and present commentaries, Kellan and Stephenie struggle to come up with something nice to say about her. LOL

PS: I bet Rob likes the Double Double.

    • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 3:45 PM #

      4string,

He does seem like a double double kind of guy but he said he had two burgers and an arnold palmer. No wonder why he’s having tummy troubles. LOL

      • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 3:49 PM #

Just for clarification purposes….an arnold palmer is a non-alcoholic beverage. its half iced tea and half lemonade. I just don’t want anyone who reads this to think that Rob was under the influence of any alcohol while participating in the commentary.

That was funny R’s In-n-Out burger commentary!!!

Wow!He scarfed down two pretty quickly.LOL!!

          • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:08 PM #

I know. I was trying to listen to his voice to see if he was eating while he was talking…lol

            • Open Book February 12, 2011 at 5:14 PM #

So u thought Meyer and Godfrey’s commentary was distasteful? I agree regarding the R comment, but it was informative. I think they gave themselves away they were trying to oversell K when they kept trying to over emphasize how hard she worked. It was not necessary to keep saying this if it was true. I mean u say it once and move on.

              • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:15 PM #

that’s true. i didn’t hear anything really informative except for how great K is. I’ll have to go back and listen.

                • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:16 PM #

but i didn’t listen to the entire commentary i turned it off after the r diss. I was livid.

  2. Parisienne February 11, 2011 at 5:27 PM #

You should listen to the godfreymeyer commentary. its a glorified kristen fest. I haven’t really heard Kellan say anything about her. I don’t understand it either how could one not at least have a basic understanding of the material? she’s only there because she knows people and that’s it.

  3. ozzie20 February 11, 2011 at 8:52 PM #

I don’t have the DVD so I can’t really comment on it but I wanted to say it’s a good article and from what I read here, I agree.

    • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 3:43 PM #

      Ozzie,

Thank you for the compliment. 🙂 I appreciate it. Save your money, unless you really want the DVD. I held out as long as i could and its my favorite book out of the 4.

      • ozzie20 February 12, 2011 at 6:03 PM #

Lol! I won’t be getting it. I don’t have the others either. A certain person’s acting skills and rumours killed it for me. I wish I could get back the feelings I had when I read them. Never mind!

        • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 7:04 PM #

Oh I completely agree with you but that’s why i got it just so i could hear for myself.

    Hi!

    I’m here!

      Hi,

I’m just reading everyones comments trying to catch up.

Q: Did u watch the DVD or BluRay edition?

      • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:03 PM #

        The DVD. u?

        • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:04 PM #

I haven’t cracked and purchased a blu-ray yet. do you have one?

          • Open Book February 12, 2011 at 5:09 PM #

Don’t get the blu-ray, there’s been complaints about the limited features on them. Very misleading packaging to get people to pay more for blu-ray features.

            • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:10 PM #

thanks for the warning. I would assume the features are the same as the dvd?

              • Open Book February 12, 2011 at 5:17 PM #

Yes!! They are but minus the commentary.

                • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:18 PM #

that’s why i bought the dvd….i wanted to torture myself….lol

                    LOL!!!

it was like listening to nails on a chalkboard.

  5. Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:11 PM #

did you get to listen to all the commentaries?

    • Open Book February 12, 2011 at 5:16 PM #

Yes!! I did not get the blu-ray version. LOL!!!

      • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:23 PM #

at the end of r/k commentary. k pratically hung up on r.

        • Open Book February 12, 2011 at 5:41 PM #

Really? I did not notice that!!

          • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:52 PM #

yeah go back and listen to it. she was off that phone like someone was lighting her on fire.

  6. Open Book February 12, 2011 at 5:19 PM #

Do u think actors are good with doing commentaries for their films?

Is it hard to look at your work on screen and comment?

    • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:22 PM #

I hate looking at myself on screen. absolutely dislike it. its hard to be objective about yourself but then i’ve done some where its turned out better than i thought.

      • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:22 PM #

as far as r/k commentary….i think they had no idea what to say to each other. they should have had talking points.

        • Open Book February 12, 2011 at 5:27 PM #

Oh! I agree….I believe R mentioned they should follow the questions they were given. Yet, I think they both chucked it, in favor of kidding around. I think people laugh more when they are uncomfortable.

          • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:29 PM #

he really should have stuck with the questions. but then again in a way i’m glad they didn’t because they let the public see their relationship for what it really is.

            • Open Book February 12, 2011 at 5:34 PM #

Yeah!! However, K is all about method, so questions and preparation is not one of her strong suits unfortunately. So it probably was better they just winged it.

              • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:35 PM #

ugh. method. she’s not about method she’s just lazy, IMO.

                • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:37 PM #

here’s what i would have done if i were them. i would have written down everything i remebered about filming the scenes i was in and then talked about it when that paticular scene came up. oh and valium…i would have taken some valium.

                  • Open Book February 12, 2011 at 5:39 PM #

LOL!! Valium!! Just one…… or the bottle?

                    • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:41 PM #

ummm when dealing with her??? the bottle.

                    • Open Book February 12, 2011 at 5:42 PM #

LOL!! O.k. we have to stop the K banter…

                    • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:45 PM #

                      ok.

          • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:33 PM #

well they were uncomfortable with each other. although i would think that they have to spend time together on set so that should have made it a tad bit easier. but then again i guess not.

      • Open Book February 12, 2011 at 5:24 PM #

So I would imagine since films are shot out of sequence it adds to the difficulty of commenting about the movie as well. No?

        • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:26 PM #

i would guess. i’ve never shot a feature film…when that happens i’ll let you know. but to answer it as best i can…..i would guess so because you would have to remember everything that happens.

          • Open Book February 12, 2011 at 5:31 PM #

It’s hard to watch a film after it’s been edited and patched together, then remember what motivated u to do something. So often in some scenes with late night shoots u are thinking when the*** will this be over. LOL!!! However, u can’t say that.LOL!!

            • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:33 PM #

              LOL! i know.

              • Open Book February 12, 2011 at 5:37 PM #

Also, u have the crew staring at u if the scenes are taking forever to get right. U know they want to kill u, on these late night early morning shoots. Goodness!! Oh! and then u are suppose to edit that commentary out in favor of PC answers. LOL!!

                • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:38 PM #

                  LOL! yes, no, maybe so.

  7. Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:40 PM #

did you notice that almost every scene she was in. she had a different wig on?

    • Open Book February 12, 2011 at 5:46 PM #

Yes!! A complete mess caused by her own desire to cut her hair for some film that barely no-one saw. Priorities are all wrong. The wigs were there own event and written into the script. They should have gotten some dialogue as well.

      • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:48 PM #

they didn’t work very well for the sake of continuity.

        • Open Book February 12, 2011 at 5:52 PM #

          No!! Not at all…

    • Littlebells February 14, 2011 at 9:20 PM #

It was so effin’ annoying!!! I am so glad I am not the only to have noticed that. It was incredibly distracting…..ARgh!

      • Parisienne February 14, 2011 at 9:21 PM #

LOL it was very annoying. I even think her wig was tinged red at one point.

  8. Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:43 PM #

i liked it when she asked him if he had a six pack of heineken with him. I so badly wanted him to say “yes. i drink because i have to put up with you.” LOL

    • Open Book February 12, 2011 at 5:51 PM #

Really!! I admired him for not going off after that comment. Now, she should have asked herself that same question, given how incoherent she was.

      • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:53 PM #

yeah i know i admired him for that too. he just laughed and said he was drinking an arnold palmer.

        • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:54 PM #

that’s why i put in my replies that the arnold palmer is a non-alcoholic beverage. because she made it sound like he was drinking, imo.

        • Open Book February 12, 2011 at 6:04 PM #

Yeah! Now, I would have been interested to hear the real commentary after that remark. LOL!!!

          • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 6:06 PM #

LOL! if i were him i would have been looking for a mute button.

      • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:55 PM #

        she was…i agree.

  9. Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:44 PM #

i don’t know how commentaries work on a film. if they are in the same location i would assume they have microphones? but in the example of r/k i would assume k was on a phone?

    • Open Book February 12, 2011 at 5:57 PM #

I don’t know!! I’ve never had to do any commentaries!!…….. That’s not my area of expertise. All behind the scenes that’s where I like to stay.

      • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:58 PM #

LOL. if i ever do one. i’ll let you know.

  10. Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 5:50 PM #

i did notice something about k working with others. its not mean. its just an observation. when she was talking about the scene with taylor where bella goes to see jacob at his house. she said that for every take they did he made the scene better and she didn’t like that he did that. that is the impression i received.

    • Open Book February 12, 2011 at 6:01 PM #

Yeah!! I think she was trying to make some sort of comparison to how good Taylor was compared to R. However, it fell flat….I’m not sure they realize how easy for audiences to pick up these things. Little snide comments and remarks add up at the end. Then audiences can see there dislike for R, IMO very clearly.

      • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 6:03 PM #

i didn’t get the impression that she was trying to compare r and t i just thought t made her work and she didn’t like it. but now that you say that it makes sense.

      • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 6:05 PM #

and we all know R has taylor beat hands down. well i shouldn’t put it that way. taylor is good in his own right its just r does films that are more mature and thougt provoking. i don’t think t is quite there just yet.

        • Open Book February 12, 2011 at 6:12 PM #

See I don’t think it’s fair to compare the two. TL is just starting out. R has had way more preparation than TL IMO. Also, R is a more versatile and introspective actor. TL is all about physical transformation than internal.

          • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 6:15 PM #

that’s true. IMO, R chooses roles that heigthen him on a intellectual level.

            • Open Book February 12, 2011 at 6:19 PM #

It must be hard for these two getting compared all the time. U can see it goes on a lot on the set for Twilight. I’m sure they are sick of it. I would be.

              • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 6:22 PM #

i agree. IMO, that’s how everything was set up though. In other words, K is always going to be compared to R even when Twilight is done. They seem to be dependent on each other, IMO.

                • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 6:23 PM #

or more so she’s dependent on him.

  11. Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 6:01 PM #

I did notice that in a sense she tried to one up him sometimes.

    • Open Book February 12, 2011 at 6:08 PM #

This is an over generalization. IMO: I find people who are not very well informed are very insecure, controlling and competitive.

      • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 6:09 PM #

i’m just being nice. you are correct though.

        • Open Book February 12, 2011 at 6:14 PM #

          O.k. Gotcha!!

          • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 6:16 PM #

            LOL

  12. Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 6:12 PM #

i did notice if you’d like to compare the twilight commentary to the eclipse commentary for a second….he did ask her in the twilight commentary what her motivations were for certain scenes and in eclipse he didn’t do that at all.

    • Open Book February 12, 2011 at 6:16 PM #

Oh! I don’t remember the Twilight commentary. Sorry!! However, R’s commentary for Remember Me was a lot better than Eclipse.

      • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 6:17 PM #

of course it was. he could have a normal conversation. i loved that ruby jerrins took part in it too and he asked her about the boats that sail on the water. 🙂

Yes! That was very cute…I like the story about his Mom thinking he’d gotten a tattoo?

          • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 6:24 PM #

LOL! i know. Yes i could see R walking into a tatoo parlor saying “give me a tatoo on my chest that say michael.” LOL

            • Parisienne February 12, 2011 at 6:25 PM #

I wonder if that tatoo washed off very easily. or did he have to have reapplied every day.

              • Open Book February 12, 2011 at 6:30 PM #

His little tattoo was so small. It was nothing to have it reapplied every day.

O.k. I’m really calling it a night. LOL!!
